PHOTOGRAPHY BEYOND THE PHOTOGRAPH

Munna, Sahin, and Kaoser are only three of the many people I have been fortunate to meet through photography and continue supporting over the years.

For me, photography has never been only about taking a picture. It is about seeing people, listening to their stories, understanding their struggles, and building a human connection.

Sometimes, a photograph becomes the beginning of a relationship—and that relationship can continue long after the photograph is taken.

Munna was a little boy when I first photographed him more than 20 years ago. I stayed connected with his family and supported them in different ways over the years. A few years ago, I gave him an auto-rickshaw as a gift so he could earn his own living. Today, he can earn around 1,000 taka a day.

Sahin lost both his legs in a bomb blast. After almost 17 years without contact, I found him again. I helped repair his artificial legs and gave him an auto-rickshaw so he could work and support his family. Today, his two daughters are going to school.

Kaoser was begging when I met him. I noticed him photographing his daughter with a mobile phone. That moment led me to speak with him and understand his life. He had lost one hand but wanted to work. I helped him start a small vegetable business so he could earn through his own work.

These stories remind me why I photograph people.

A photograph can capture a moment. But a human connection can continue far beyond the frame.

For me, that is the true meaning of photography.

"I see the beauty of people and the human soul in the pictures I take. And though the circumstances of some of the people I portray may be grim, back-breaking, depraved, the people themselves are always remarkable characters and souls" For me Photography is my language, to access, to communicate, to identify and mostly to make it hear. Through photography I only jot down my heart’s language. The best part about being a photographer is that I’m able to articulate the experiences of the voiceless and to bring their identities to the forefront which gives meaning and purpose to my own life.
